Clinton County to Offer Free Christmas Light and Tree Recycling

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Christmas lights and trees that are broken or unwanted can be recycled for free by the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency. The aforementioned items, along with additional electrical equipment like extension cables and electrical wiring, will be accepted under the year-round metal recycling program.

The announcement by the Agency states that residents who wish to recycle Christmas lights are required to visit the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency, who will direct them to designated drop-off area.

Batteries, particularly rechargeable batteries, should not be disposed of in trash or even recycled, according to Brad Seward, Director of Operations and Education at the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency. These things may cause landfills and recycling facilities to catch fire. They may become tangled and intermingled with other recyclables, which would interfere with MRFs' single-stream recycling process, therefore they couldn't be put in curbside recycling. Seward also urged everyone to keep the packaging away from the lights and wiring.

Additionally, through January 11th, people could recycle real Christmas trees for free. Meanwhile, on both New Year's Day and the afternoon of New Year's Eve, the facility will remain closed.
