SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Action plans to shield communities from the effects of plastic waste and production are outlined in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution.

It suggests possible steps that communities, businesses, non-profits, and government organizations might do to combat plastic pollution. According to the policy, the government recently committed to creating an international accord to lessen plastic pollution globally.

EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan commented on the news, saying the new approach will have a significant effect on the environment and public health. It will open the door to lowering the pollution that causes cancer from plastic manufacturing plants and improving methods of capturing garbage before it enters the environment and human bodies. Additionally, it is anticipated that the sector will be held more accountable for returning recycled plastic packaging.

According to the EPA approach, the effects of single-use goods on the environment and human health must be measured at every stage of their lifecycle. Additionally, it calls on governments to implement stronger public policies and incentives—such as the establishment of a national extended producer responsibility (EPR) framework—to reduce plastic pollution.
