As per announcement, residents could drop-off their plastic bags, bubble wrap and other types of plastic film to the Fanwood Public Works Department, Manfra Way off North Avenue during the month of December from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday. Starting January 2023, plastic film bags will be accepted at Fanwood Recycling Center, North Avenue and Westfield Road, on the first Saturday of the month, 8-11 a.m.
The accepted items include produce bags, store bags, ice bags, Ziploc and other reclosable bags, cereal box liners, case overwrap, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags, bubble wraps and plastic e-commerce mailers. Only flexible plastic film could be recycled through this program. Also, the bags must be clean and dry. Meantime, the program will not accept clamshells, casings, containers or other hard plastic items.
The plastic films collected at the above locations will be consolidated and shipped to Trex Virginia facility, where they will be used as raw material in manufacturing sustainable products.
