Franklin County Towns Signed Letters in Support of Paint Recycling Bill

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Franklin County towns-Bernardston, Northfield, Montague, Deerfield, Sunderland and Hawley have signed letters in support of a paint recycling bill. The supporters of the bill argue that it could result in significant cost savings for municipalities, in addition to protecting the environment.

As per the bill, all participating paint retailers will collect a point-of-sale fee of less than $1.25 per gallon. The funds thus collected will be managed by PaintCare, which in turn will use the collected money towards establishing paint collection sites, transporting paint to centres for further processing and educating general public on proper management of paint. The bill provides option to retailers to opt into the program.

It will allow for municipalities to save money spent for drop-off events. Furthermore, the legislation would allow paint retailers to accept paint throughout the year.

The year-round collections promises to be more convenient for residents. Moreover, it will boost collections. The legislation aims to establish sustainable funding for recycling or proper disposal of paint.
