Multi-Million Dollar Loan to Support New San Antonio Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A collaboration of American Beverage and Closed Loop Partners announced a loan amounting to $3 million in support of Balcones Recycling’s new San Antonio recycling facility. The loan has been granted through Closed Loop Partners’ Infrastructure Group.

The loan will be used to finance the installation of a new equipment at the facility, aimed at improving the processing and recycling of materials and adding recycling capacity. The planned new sorting technology promises to deliver significant improvement to the recycling rate of a wide range of materials including PET bottles.

The facility will generate over one million tons of recyclables over the next ten years, including around 60,000 tons of PET plastic and more than 20,000 tons of aluminum. The return of these materials back into the supply chain will ensure that they are used in the manufacture of new bottles, thus leading to a circular economy.

Carol McGarah, executive director of the Texas Beverage Association stated that it is proud to be part of the project. The state-of-the-art facility is a critical step toward improving San Antonio’s recycling infrastructure. It will result in more materials to be processed and remade rather than wasted in a landfill, he added.
