SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): According to the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County, the newly constructed $25 million sophisticated Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Summerdale will service the counties of Baldwin and southern Alabama. The building also has an education center and a RNG plant.
The Authority will be able to expand its services into new markets and places with the aid of the 62,000-square-foot headquarters, RNG plant, and instructional center. In addition to Baldwin County and its 14 partner communities, it will improve recycling services in the counties of Mobile, Washington, Clarke, Monroe, Escambia, and Conecuh.

By preserving natural resources, the state's first-of-its-kind facility will significantly contribute to the reduction of waste and pollution. By extending the lifespan of resources, the facility aims to support a circular economy. Up to 40,000 tons of recyclables, including cardboard, paper, metals, and plastics, can be processed annually by the MRF. It will create about 50 jobs when it is operating at full capacity.
Methane gas released from Magnolia Landfill will be captured by the RNG facility, purified, and transformed into natural gas. An estimated 1 million BTUs of natural gas can be produced annually by the facility.
