SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The new Indianapolis Polymer Center, Republic Services' second integrated plastics processing facility following the success of the Las Vegas facility, was officially opened with a ceremony. The facility uses a state-of-the-art dual-line system that was created by STADLER.
The plant's purpose is to recover PET and PO from pre-sorted plastics that Republic Services collects. It will create premium, food-grade recycled plastics that may be utilized to make new bottles, jugs, and containers.

For a completely automated wire removal procedure, STADLER's WireX equipment opens the bales of mixed polymers. The materials are processed at the plant by being received in two separate lines: one for mixed plastics and one for PET. The capability of the PET line is 5.5 tons per hour, while the mixed plastics line is somewhat less capable at 5 tons per hour.
Ferrous particles are initially eliminated via the PET line. A STADLER STT2000 ballistic separator is then used to separate the materials into rigid, flexible, and fines fractions. A near-infrared (NIR) sorting procedure is next used to separate the materials.
The materials are separated into fines and sieve overflow in the mixed plastics line. Following the separation of the overflow's heavier fractions into four polyethylene (PE) fractions, PET is extracted and transferred to the PET line for additional processing.
