Rumpke Opened North America’s Largest Recycling Center

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Rumpke Waste & Recycling announced opening of new recycling facility at 1190 Joyce Ave. The $100 million facility is touted as North America’s largest recycling center on the Near East Side. The company had announced its decision to construct the facility two years ago.

The state-of-the-art 226,000-square-foot recycling center features a total of 19 optical sorters and runs of artificial intelligence technology. It will be capable of handling material from as many as 50 Ohio counties. The waste processing capacity of the facility is estimated at around 60 tons per hour.

The center also houses a career center, a visitor education room and a research and development studio. The education center, established in collaboration with Centre of Science and Industry (COSI) will offer recycling education and awareness to the general public.

According to the company, more than nine-tenth of the material processed at the center will finally arrive at end-users in Ohio, including Greif, Advanced Drainage Systems, Axium Plastics and Pratt Industries.

Andrew Rumpke, President, Rumpke Waste & Recycling noted that the launch of the new recycling facility ensures that the region will have enough recycling capacity to serve its future needs.
