SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Rutherford County signed an agreement with Tennessee-headquartered Waste Management Inc. (WM) towards loading, transporting and disposing of solid waste from the County’s new transfer station, to be located at 6000 Landfill Road in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The newly signed contract is renewable for up to 20 years. The construction of the transfer station is expected to be completed before March or April next year.
The proposed transfer station facility in Murfreesboro will serve as the central location where all the waste will be consolidated before being shifted to its final resting place. The revenue from the transfer station is expected to cover the facility’s operational cost, thus eliminating any extra burden on residents. Meantime, WM will ensure the management of downstream flow of solid waste.
Joe Carr, Mayor of Rutherford County, in a statement, said that the contract is part of ensuring that the County is on its way to becoming solid waste independent. The move promises to deliver vital services in an efficient manner, he added.
Also, Bishop Wagener, Rutherford County Solid Waste Director stated that the agreement marks a significant milestone in the County’s march toward solid waste management independence.
