Steamboat Springs Drop-Off Event Collected 20,000 Pounds of Paint


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The free drop-off event organized by the nonprofit PaintCare organization on 22 June, 2024 in Steamboat Springs collected approximately 20,000 pounds of paint for safe disposal.

According to statistics released by PaintCare, a total of 203 vehicles participated in the event held at the parking lot of Steamboat Springs Middle School. The event witnessed collection of 16,373 pounds of latex and 3,496 pounds of oil-based products for recycling. Also, PaintCare donated 38 gallons of paint to the community.

In 2023, PaintCare had collected 8,117 gallons of leftover paint in Moffat and Routt counties. The collection touched fresh record of 807,872 gallons of paint in Colorado. Since 2015, Coloradans have recycled more than 6 million gallons of paint and related products such as primers, stains and clear top coatings of varnish and shellac through PaintCare.

PaintCare hosts drop-off locations for collecting leftover paint from residents, which are funded by fees charged by stores on purchase of new paint by consumers. The collected paint are properly disposed and responsibly recycled. Also, PaintCare runs two year-round drop-off sites in Steamboat Springs at Sherwin-Williams on Anglers Drive and Steamboat Ace Hardware at Curve Plaza.
