The open houses will provide residents with necessary information on the commercial recycling ordinance. In addition, the residents will get an opportunity to provide their feedback on the ordinance, before it goes back to the City Council in the month of February next year.
The ordinance has been prepared in collaboration with an outside firm. Two separate meetings were held with representatives from City Council, Waste Management, Twin Enviro and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council. The feedback from commercial entities were also taken into consideration.
Currently, all commercial waste collection companies within city limits are required to provide wildlife-resistant trash containers and curbside recycling for single-family and duplex home residential customers. The new ordinance requires solid waste collectors to offer recycling services to commercial customers. It will be applicable to businesses and multi-family residences.
