SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Town of Shrewsbury will mark the official launch of its new single-stream collection service by beginning to roll out new recycling carts to its residents.
The new program allows residents to place all recyclables directly into the new 64-gallon cart, without having to sort them. The new larger carts will replace the currently used smaller bins. Also, the new carts will have wheels, which makes them easy to handle. Also, attached lids will ensure that recyclables are kept dry and secure. The households will receive their carts before the end of the month so that the new collection program could begin on July 1, 2024.

The program is being implemented with the support of a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. In addition, the town has also secured a grant from The Recycling Partnership, with the support from Cox Enterprises as well as the American Beverage’s Every Bottle Back initiative and Massachusetts Beverage Association. These grants will fund purchase of as many as 10,200 new carts and the education and outreach campaign for residents to familiarise themselves with the collection procedure.
The Town urged residents to place only recyclable items in carts and to avoid contamination.
