SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Waste Connections purchased New York-based Royal Waste Services in one of the largest deals since the Department of Sanitation awarded contracts for commercial waste zones earlier this year. The Business Integrity Commission (BIC) attested to having received notification of the company's ownership change.

According to federal records, Royal Waste operates more than 120 vehicles. It owns a transfer station in addition to recycling facilities. The transfer station in southeastern Queens is operated through Regal Recycling. The permitted capacity of the site is approximately 462 tons per day. The company’s single-stream recycling operation has capability to process around 15,000 tons per month.
The acquisition will further expand Waste Connections’ New York footprints. The company had made entry into the New York City market with the acquisition of Progressive Waste Solutions in 2016. It had acquired a Bronx transfer station later in 2019. . The recent acquisition marks the first sizable deal by the company since entering the market.
Under DSNY’s new system, Waste Connections had won 12 zone contracts, along with a citywide contract.
