WM Acquired NY-Based Winters Bros. Waste Systems


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): WM announced that it has acquired Long Island, New York-based waste and recycling company Winters Bros. Waste Systems effective yesterday, 15th July, 2024. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Winter Bros. employs more than 500 people, providing waste and recycling services to large number of residential, commercial and industrial customers in Long Island and in parts of New York City. The company operates 12 transfer stations, an MRF and multiple recycling locations.

The deal marks expansion of operations of WM into Long Island region, where it currently has only limited presence. It provides the company with a potential new angle in New York City. The acquisition will result in addition of complementary assets and operations. Further to acquisition, WM has now emerged as the largest hauler on Long Island. It must be noted that WM is in the process of acquiring Illinois-based Stericycle, which is expected to close before end-2024.

Jimmy Winters, Executive Vice President, Winters Bros., in a statement, noted that the merger will allow the company to capitalize on the attractive business opportunities on Long Island and enhance its ability to provide comprehensive solutions to its customers.
