City of Mission Announced Substantial Reduction in Curbside Recycling Contamination

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A review of City of Mission’s curbside recycling by Recycle BC revealed that the recycling contamination has reported significant reduction over a three-month period. The results exceeded the three-month goal.

Recycle BC had set a three-month contamination reduction goal of 8.33%. However, the actual reduction in contamination rate stood at 11.42%, implying that residents are putting waste in its proper place. The City targets to reduce contamination rate as much as 25% by the end of the current year. By reducing contamination, the residents ensure that maximum items are getting recycled instead of ending up in landfills.

Recycle BC has been indulged in a series of public outreach and education campaigns aimed at raising awareness among residents. In addition to this, it has been creating awareness through social media campaigns, newspaper advertisements as well as recycling notifications through the Recycle Coach app.

A failure to reach the 25% recycling contamination reduction targets will be detrimental for the City as it may result in cut in financial incentive received by the City on behalf of Recycle BC. In the meantime, the City commended residents for their efforts so far and noted that the initial progress looks promising.
