SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services, a Denver-based company, announced that it has started operating an all-electric fleet of waste collection and recycling trucks in the City of Louisville. Among those in attendance at the fleet's launch celebration was Mayor Chris Leh. Luoisville created history last summer when it became the first city in the nation to implement an electric vehicle collection fleet.

Three McNeilus Volterra ZSLs and a Peterbilt 520EV rear-loader make up the fleet. The newest safety technology features available for the McNeilus Volterra include autonomous braking, lane-departure sensors, a larger windshield, and 360-degree cameras. It should be noted that Republic Services operates the largest electric collection fleet in North America.
Republic Services' Mountain West Area President, Bryant Thornton, stated that the organization wants to collaborate with clients to build a more sustainable society. Its commitment to reducing its carbon impact and assisting local communities in taking climate action includes electrifying its fleet. He praised the City of Louisville for being a true leader in sustainability.
By 2028, Republic Services expects at least 50% of its new truck purchases will be electric vehicles.
