SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Last month, Cape Town, South Africa, hosted the annual World Congress of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). The Institute of Waste Management of South Africa (IWMSA), a nonprofit organization, organized the conference with the topic "Waste to Wealth: Solutions for a Sustainable Future."
Over 1,200 people took part in the ISWA World Congress. There were around 400 exhibitors in the display hall. Over 600 members were said to have attended the gala event.

The necessity of closing dumpsites to expedite the shift to a circular economy was deliberated at the World Congress. It brought attention to the necessity of allocating more funds for health and safety. The production of bioplastics, landfill gas recovery, and telematics were among the subjects covered.
The General Assembly of ISWA chose James Law of SCS Engineers to be its president prior to the World Congress. He takes over for Brazilian Carlos Silva, who just finished a four-year term.
In 2025, Buenos Aires, Argentina will host the ISWA World Congress, which is scheduled for October 27–29.
By 2050, it is estimated that the world would generate approximately 4 billion tons of waste annually, according to ISWA and the World Bank.
