SCDES Launched ‘Recycle Here SC’ Mobile Recycling App

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): To make recycling simpler for South Carolinians, the S.C. Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), Palmetto Pride, and the S.C. Beverage Association announced the release of the "Recycle Here SC" mobile application. The new app is one of the first of its sort in the country.

The app offers information on what, where, and how to recycle items at different places throughout the state, according to Myra Reece, interim director of SCDES. Its goal is to make recycling easier. Additionally, it will lessen contamination of recyclable items and reduce confusion.

Residents can look for recycling programs and locations in their county with the "Recycle Here SC" app. It offers the ability to filter locations according to the materials that must be recycled. Residents can register to get alerts about events related to special collections. It also offers tips on how to properly dispose of materials. The purpose of the new recycling software is to supplement existing smartphone apps that are available in some counties. Additionally, it will be of great use to citizens of those counties who do not yet have their own app.

The app was financed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Solid Waste Infrastructure or Recycling (SWIFR) grant that SCDES received.
