As per FDEP calculations, Palm Beach County recycled around 3.5 million tons out of the 4.2 million tons of municipal solid waste collected during the previous year. This is inclusive of both traditional recycling, construction and demolition recycling, vegetation and waste-to-energy recycling credits.

Commenting on the achievement, Dan Pellowitz, Executive Director, Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority said that the recycling success of the county is the result of its residents’ recognition of the value of recycling and their dedicated efforts to recycle right every day. Since the late-1980s, the County has been running a dual-stream recycling program and a robust construction and demolition recycling effort, he added.

Palm Beach County was followed by Baker and Collier counties, which recorded overall recycling rate of 76% and 75% respectively.
