Republic Services, Ameresco Begin RNG Plant Operations at Roxana Landfill

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services and Amaeresco, Inc.'s joint venture said that in November of this year, its landfill gas (LFG) to renewable natural gas (RNG) plant at Republic Services' Roxana Landfill in Edwardsville, Illinois, has reached commercial operation.

The Roxana RNG facility can process 6,000 standard cubic feet of raw landfill gas per minute, making it one of the biggest of its kind in all of North America. According to estimates, the plant will cut carbon dioxide emissions by almost 82,000 metric tons annually. Illinois's goal of 40% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% clean energy by 2050 will be aided by the project.

The Roxana facility is Republic Services and Amaresco Energy's fourteenth joint renewable energy project. Eight more projects are presently in different phases of planning, approval, and building.

According to Tim Oudman, Senior Vice President of Sustainability Innovation at Republic Services, the collaboration with Ameresco contributes to the development of a renewable resource and the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining environmental protection. The project will assist in converting garbage into a dependable source of renewable energy, according to Michael Bakas, President of Renewable Fuels at Ameresco.
