WM Begins Construction of Two New Ontario Recycling Facilities

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): WM Canada announced that it has begun construction of two new recycling facilities in Ontario. The company expects completion of construction by 2025.

Currently, the province is transitioning the management of its Blue Box program to packaging producers. Upon successful completion of transitioning, which is expected by January 1, 2026, the packaging producers will be fully responsible for collection and recycling of materials. The two proposed WM facilities will process almost 30% of Ontario’s residential recycling volume under the province’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) program.

The two state-of-the-art facilities are located in Waterloo and Greater Napanee. Each of these facilities will be able to handle approximately 40 metric tons of materials per hour. This in turn will result in significant increase in overall recycling capacity in the area. Incidentally, these two material recycling facilities (MRFs) are the first major residential recycling projects by WM, in alignment with the region’s EPR program.

WM has already entered into a contract with Circular Materials, in connection with processing of materials.
